VINTAGE OLD MOVIE POSTER CARE TIPS
To know what can be bad for your vintage
old movie posters is to understand what you should not do to devaluate
vintage old movie posters and what care should be taken. Therefore,
I would like to devote this page to talk about the things that you should
not do to your vintage old movie posters or any movie posters for that
matter.
First of all, let's list the things which
will decrease the value of your movie posters and then you'll understand
why we should avoid doing these things to cause deteriation to your
movie posters.
Things that will decrease the value of your vintage
old movie posters:
- Pin holes.
- Scotch or masking tapes.
- Grease and oil.
- Dirt.
- Moisture.
- Creases and folds.
- Tears.
- Alterations.
- Frayed yellowing edges.
- Fading colors on graphics.
Things you should not do to your vintage old movie posters:
- Do not scotch tape or pin your poster when hanging it on the wall.
Frame your poster with acid free backing board to preserve its condition.
- Do not hang your movie poster where the sun can hit it directly. This will fade the poster. Hang your movie poster where it is cool and dry.
- Protect your movie poster in a frame so that grease, dirt and moisture won't get to it.
- If you don't hang your movie posters, store roll posters in thick
poster tubes which you can buy from the post office or office supply
stores. Store folded posters in between thick cardboards in plastic
bags.
- Do not repair tears using scotch or masking tape. Use acid free
tape instead. Tape the back of the poster and not the front. You can
buy acid free tapes from art supply stores. You might consider having
a professional to repair the poster for you if you think it justifies
the costs.
- Never alter the appearance of your movie posters by coloring, writing
or drawing on it. Do not write on the back of your poster. The ink
can be seen through from the front!
- Try not to fold or bend your movie posters as much as possible.
- When mailing your movie poster, mail roll poster in a thick poster.
A folded poster should be protected by thick cardboards and mailed in
a bubble envelope.
With simple common sense, your valuable vintage old movie posters will
go a long way. Good luck and happy poster collecting!
